U16 GIRLS GAME REPORTS |
Location : South Surrey
Weather : Sunny conditions
Mountain FC - 3 : 2 - Coastal
Half-time score : (mtn:oppos)
Three points needed for the Mountain Girls and they did not disappoint. Despite all traveling parents may requiring to take Monday morning off from work due to sport-viewing-induced stress related problems. A wide free kick miss judged by Goal Keeper Mo Desormeaux allowed the Coastal girls to take an early lead. A bizarre set of events saw the Coastal Girls denied three goals by the Referee. All questionable decisions but in this reporters eye one legitimate goal would have been about right but then again I did not have the luxury of wearing sunglasses like the referee did. The Mountain Girls then went two nil down giving themselves a Mountain to climb. A great response just before the half saw Jessie De Boer slot the ball into the back of the net from 10 yards out after good build up play down the right hand side with several of the Mountain Girls playing a key role in the goal including Cara Ott, Ashley Hultman and Lindsey McDonald. At half time a bullet dodged and back to the drawing board for the Girls. Like Chalk and Cheese the Girls took to the field for the second half a different team. Fighting for their season Kristina Pearkes came to life earning a penalty and allowing Jessie DeBoer to practice her rebounds who passed the ball in on her second attempt. With Mountain player Frances Perry dominating the midfield, Coastal could not compete and Kristina Pearkes weaved in the box again and this time with her right foot wand directed the ball into the far corner passed the coastal Goal Keeper. A fantastic second half performance by the Girls and an exciting week ahead with their last game away to West Coast Caps.

Mountain FC U16 GIRLS vs Thompson Okanagan - July 17th
Location : Burnaby Lake
Weather : Sunny conditions
Mountain FC - 1 : 0 - Thompson Okanagan
Half-time score : (mtn:oppos)
A big double header weekend for the Girls. Looking at the league table a winning weekend would keep their chances alive for a National Qualification spot. A good start from the Mountain Girls saw Cara Ott and Strike partner Ashley Hultman link up well for the a latter to put Mountain 1 nil up and allow the Mountain Girls to build on this good start. Goals were needed to boast the Mountain Girls up the league table and despite plenty of possession in and around the Okanagan penalty box Mountain failed to put the ball in the back of the net as much as they would of liked. Three points earned in what turned out to be a scrappy well fought game for the Mountain Girls. Tomorrow they travel to South Surrey to face Coastal for their penultimate game of the season.
Goal #1 scored by: Ashley Hultman Assisted by: Cara Ott

Mountain FC U16 GIRLS vs Coquitlam Metro - July 11th
Location : Coquitlam Town Center
Weather : Sunny conditions
Mountain FC - 1 : 1 - Coquitlam Metro
Half-time score : (mtn:oppos)
With both teams chasing the qualifications places for Nationals, this was always going to be a tight affair. A nil nil draw in their previous encounter didn't suggest the traveling fans of Mountain FC would witness a high scoring game. And history did repeat itself with a tight scrappy game resulting in a one one draw. Mountain had the better of the early chances with efforts from Cara Ott and Jessie DeBoer. However it took Mountain midway through the second half to put a goal on the board when Isabella DiTrochhio to find space in the box and she cooly looped the ball into the back of the net. Coquitlam desperate to keep their season alive threw everything they had at the Mountain back four and late in the game a powerful free kick was too hot to handle for Sabine Grutter and the ball slowly crossed the line. Two points dropped and an opportunity to take Coquitlam out of the equation . Never the less an earned away point for the Girls.
Goal #1 scored by: Isabella DiTrochhio Assisted by: Kristina Pearkes

Mountain FC U16 GIRLS vs Coastal FC - June 19th
Location : Burnaby Lake West
Weather : Hot
Mountain FC - 3 : 0 - Coastal FC
Half-time score : 1:0 (mtn:oppos)
A crunch match for Mountain FC on Saturday afternoon against rivals Coastal resulted in convincing 3-0 home win for Mountain. On a hot day, Mountain had the better of the earlier exchanges amongst some threatening Coastal counter attacks but it wasn't until seconds before half time that Mountain finally broke the deadlock. A quick through ball by Ashley Hultman put Kristina Pearkes in on goal and Pearkes finished with style in to the bottom right hand corner. Half-time score - Mountain 1: Coastal 0. Mountain started the 2nd half exactly how the finished the 1st but had to wait until midway through the 2nd half to double their lead. New recruit Harveer Rai was put through by Isabella Ditrocchio and bravely, Rai scooped the ball over the advancing keeper, the challenge would end Rai's contribution for the day. The game was effectively over and Mountain would extend their lead with about 10 mins to go with a stunning free kick from Rai's replacement, Daniella Smith. Smith cooly finished a 20 yard free kick in the top right hand corner to give Mountain a comfortable and deserving 3-0 victory that surely puts Mountain back in the race for qualification to Florida.

Mountain FC U16 GIRLS vs Abbotsford Mariners - June 20th
Location : Bateman Park
Weather : Mild, Grass Field
Mountain FC - 2 : 0 - Abbotsford Mariners
Half-time score : 0-0 (mtn:oppos)
Game two of a tough weekend of fixtures for the Mountain Girls saw them continue their challenge on the 2010 campaign. A controlled start to the game saw the Mountain Girls moving the ball with precision and pace, through the midfield and into the opposing teams box creating numerous assaults on the Abbotsford goalkeeper. Most attacks came down the left hand side with Daniella Smith and Shivani Sami combining well but deliveries into the box were somehow scrambled away by the Abbotsford defense. Jessie DeBoer and Kristina Pearkes constantly threatened throughout the half but the score remained 0-0 with the Mountain defense having little to do. A tactical change by coach Day allowed Ashley Hultman to utilize her long throw capabilities. And in the 55minute she lunched the ball into the ball where Jessie Deboer did well to flick the ball to the back post where Kristina Pearkes had found some space. Kristina took the ball down weaved towards the goal and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner of the goal. A well-deserved goal and the Mountain nerves were settled. Controlled possession of the ball by Mountain passed the time away. In the 64th minute this time from the left hand side Ashley Hultman launched another dangerous ball into the box for Harjot Dhatt who ever so cooley controlled the ball and again Kristina Pearkes was found who very comfortable in her new centrally attacking role calmly slotted the ball past the Abbotsford goalkeeper. 2 nil and the game which always looked out of reach for the Abbotsford team was drawing to an end. A Fine effort from substitute Isabella Speed may have made it 3 nil but the Abbotsford goalkeeper was equal to the shot and made a magnificent save. Credit has to go out to Abbotsford who constantly broke down the Mountain attacks and defended well but it finished 2 nil, a fair reflection of the game. A good result for the girls whose mounting bid for the 2010 title gathers momentum.
Goal #1 scored by: Kristina Pearkes Assisted by: Jessie DeBoer
Goal #2 scored by: Kristina Pearkes Assisted by: Harjot Dhatt

Mountain FC U16 GIRLS vs Thompson-Okanagan FC - June 12th
Location : Marshall Fields, Vernon, BC
Weather : 23 degrees, sunny with a light NNE wind
Mountain FC - 2 : 0 - Thompson-Okanagan FC
Half-time score : 1:0 (mtn:oppos)
An overnight trip to Kelowna saw the Mountain girls focus on a win to match their performances over the past two games. Mountain came out strong, resulting in numerous scoring opportunities. 12.5 minutes into the first half Mountain’s focus, excellent communication and constant pressure on Thompson Okanagan (TO) paid off from a ball passed by Ashley Hultman to Jessie Deboer to chip it past the keeper. The score at half time was 1:0 in Mountain’s favour. The girls came out in the second half intent on playing their game. Despite long balls being lopped over their heads by the TO keeper, Mountain’s defense was solid, switching play from side to side, communicating well and putting constant pressure on the TO team. An own goal by a TO defender off a pass by Lindsey McDonald in the 5th minute of the second half resulted in Mountain leading 2:0. For the rest of the second half, the girls maintained their focus in unaccustomed heat and playing surface to hold onto a well deserved win. Coach Shannon MacInnes applauded all the players for an excellent all-round performance.

Mountain FC U16 GIRLS vs Coquitlam Metro - June 2nd
Location : Coquitlam Town Center
Weather : Mild Evening
Mountain FC - 0 : 0 - Coquitlam Metro
Half-time score : 0-0 (mtn:oppos)
This mid week fixture was a key game for both teams to really make a charge up the Super Y League table. Mountain took the momentum of their previous win into the game and played their best soccer of the season with the score line an untrue reflection of how the game unfolded. The Girls kept the ball well, moving it from back to front and creating chances in the box. Unfortunately they could not capitalize on the possession of the soccer ball they had. Coquitlams goalkeepers were on fine form and the away team managed to hold on and neutralize the game for a point for both teams. A good game of soccer and a continual improvement of the Mountain team sees them travel away this weekend searching for a well deserved win to match their performances.

Mountain FC U16 GIRLS vs Abbotsford Mariners - May 29th
Location : Burnaby Lake
Weather : Wet
Mountain FC - 3 : 0 - Abbotsford Mariners
Half-time score : 1:0 (mtn:oppos)
The Mountain Girls U16 team faced the Abbotsford Mariners on a wet and dreary day for soccer. So it was up to the girls to brighten up the day on their season home opener of 2010 and they did not disappoint. 22 minutes into the game Jessie DeBoer drove down the left flank delivering an inviting ball for Kristina Pearkes who pounced onto the ball to score her first goal of the season. Good efforts on goal continued from Hillary Hyland and Cara Ott mounting the pressure on the Abbotsford goalkeeper. With consent attacks it took the Mountain team to the 60th minute before they could break the Abbotsford defense again. A much deserved goal from Isabella DiTrocchio made the game 2 nil. DiTrocchio did well to create some space on the edge of the box and she fired the ball over the stranded Abbotsford goalkeeper to kick start her goal scoring campaign. The Mountain girls began to look more in control and didn’t allow the Abbotsford attack a sniff at goal. Finally a driving run down the flank this time from Ashley Hultman was succeeded with a low cross into the box where the substitute Lindsey McDonald who managed to steer the ball goal ward and into the back of the net put the game out of reach for the visiting team. A solid performance from the Mountain girls with notable performances from Zoe Fasoulakis and Kristina Pearkes earned the girls the 3 points. The girls take their well deserved win into a mid week fixture versus Coquitlam this Wednesday.

Mountain FC U16 GIRLS vs West Coast Capitals - May 15th
Location : UVic
Weather : Sunny conditions
Mountain FC - 1 : 2 - West Coast Capitals
Half-time score : 1:0 (mtn:oppos)
An early rise and a journey by land and sea did not dent the Mountain Girls optimism for their upcoming clash versus the West Coast Capitals. The girls started well with a long range effort from Jessie De Boer being pushed onto the crossbar only to fall to Isabella DiTrocchio who blazed the ball back over the bar. It was a good start from the away team but unfortunately they failed to capitalize on their chances. Then an attack in the Mountain box found a Capital striker weaving well with the ball only to be taken down by a Mountain defender.......the referee pointed to the spot. Sabine Grutter did well to dive the right way but the well taken penalty was cooly finished and the Capitals went one nil up into the half. The Mountain Girls came out strong and controlled the second half with neat interchanging soccer, looking like the Mountain of old. A successful attack down the right flank allowed Jessie De Boer to power through the Capitals defense into the box, somehow she managed to poke the ball past the goalkeeper making the game 1-1 and a Mountain victory in sight. However a cruel twist of fate and the Mountain girls found themselves 2-1 down after failing to clear a Capitals corner and the ball was fired into the back of the net from close range. Mountain had several goal mouth scrambles in the closing minutes of the game and somehow the Capitals managed to hold onto the their slender lead. A better performance from the Mountain girls but unfortunately lady luck was not on their side this week.
Goal #1 scored by: Jessie De Boer

Mountain FC U16 GIRLS vs REVOLUTION FOOTBALL CLUB - May 9th
Location : Newton Athletic Park, Surrey
Weather : Sunny conditions, Field Two
Mountain FC - 0 : 2 - REVOLUTION FOOTBALL CLUB
Half-time score : 0:2 (mtn:oppos)
The first game of the season found the Mountain U16 girls team face the Revolution FC at their home field of Newton Athletic Park, Surrey. This game was not for the faint hearted despite the season opener falling on the respected day for Mothers. Both teams battled hard and it was a less than attractive game of soccer with few chances created in the opening half. Revolution FC took the lead when the team broke down the right flank exposing the Mountain team to a one v one in the box, the Revolution Forward pounced on a cross, turned well and rocketed the ball into the roof of the net, leaving Goalkeeper Morag Desormeaux stranded and the Mountain team stunned. The Mountain girls fought back creating two good chances for Isabella DiTrocchio who did well to find space in the opponents box but unfortunately failed to covert the chances. The Revolution then lofted a deep free kick into the Mountain area, after much confusion the ball fell to a Revolution player who managed to find the back of the net from short range. Two zero down at half time the Mountain Girls had given themselves a tough job to get something from the game. The second half got underway and as time slowly ticked away so did Mountains chances. The Mountain girls forced the Revolution FC to camp in their half making it difficult for the girls to break them down. The Revolution girls managed to hold onto their lead and the game unfortunately fizzled out to a two nil defeat. The girls travel to Victoria island this coming weekend looking to kick start there season and hope this result will only be a minor slip up on their season record.
