Mountain FC U14 BOYS vs Surrey Revolution - May 7th
Location : Newton Athletic Park
Weather : Overcast
Mountain FC - 2 : 2 - Surrey Revolution
Half-time score : 0:0 (mtn:oppos)
Both teams played a tight game in the center of the field for most of the first 35 minutes. Two different styles of play were facing each other. Mountain more the technical side with quick multiple passes, Surrey with more physical and direct play trying to use the flanks to cross the ball to their tall strikers. In the first half the only real chance was a free kick from about 30 yards taken by Cristiano Nichele that narrowly missed the top corner of the goal. In the second half Mountain was more determined to open up the game and use more flank play and in the 7th minute a determined Michael Mauro procured a penalty shot after challenging the ball with two strikers. Jacob McMahon took it well for a 1-0 lead. Surrey reacted strongly and caught Mountain on its heels at the 17 minute mark when a combination play on the left side resulted in an accurate cross that connected with a Surrey striker. At the 25 minute mark a quick play found Michael Mauro receiving a ball from central midfield; he quickly played it back for the right winger who connected with Diego Villavicencio. Diego crossed the ball for a charging Michael Mauro in the penalty box who headed the ball for a 2-1 lead. When all the hard work seemed to have paid off, it was another play down the left side that resulted in a very good cross for the Surrey striker to head into the net with less than 5 minutes to go. Although the players were disappointed for dropping 2 points, the first game of the season showed promising signs that this young squad will play a prominent role in the NorthWest division.
