Mountain FC - 3 : 0 - Metro Ford
Half-time score : 0:0 (mtn:oppos)
The game started with neither team making any headway. Play was tight and giveaways by both teams were the standard. It wasn't until mid way through the half when Mountain created their first scoring opportunities. Gerardo Villavicencio, Jacob Low started getting industrious up front and Nathan Graziano and Matteo Montagliani were creating opportunities from the flanks. The middle of the park was congested as Alessio Boneventura and Philip Chug worked hard in the centre of midfield but the slogging was hard as little space could be found. Our back four of Grayson Perrier, Adam Turin, Joey Marshall and Francesco Scaglioni were doing a superb job pushing up and keeping a high back line and were successful in trapping the Metro Ford players offside on several occasions. In spite of several corners, the Mountain team could not capitalize as several shots just went past the post. It was frustrating, but at the same time we did feel in control. Half time: 0-0. The second half started much like the 2nd half ended. Metro Ford was defending tenaciously, and Mountain struggled to break them down. Carson Ho had moved up to the striker position and was working hard to create us some opportunities. Without much notice Michael Parchomchuk and Luca Lepore had been working hard in centre midfield and were starting to create more opportunities for us as we slowly started combining for more than 2 or 3 passes at a time. Brady Hughes had slipped back to central defence and didn’t miss a beat as he won clearance after clearance and played the ball around the back with confidence. It was mid way through the 2nd half when our constant pressure resulted in our big break. An unfortunate bounce of the ball ricocheted off the arm of a Metro Ford defender and left the referee pointing to the spot. Matteo had no hesitation stepping up to volunteer to take the spot shot. He did his job and after the penalty it was 1-nil. Our boys seemed to gather confidence from the goal and generate more opportunities. Nathan had a great opportunity several minutes later and with only a defender to beat he rocketed a shot towards the net only to have the defender stick out his hand and save the ball. To everyone’s amazement the referee and his assistant missed it. It was shortly thereafter the perhaps one of our nicest goals of the season was scored when a passing play started wide on the right, the ball came back and across the back line, through midfield, down the left wing, and ended with a beautiful give and go between Lucas McIlveen and Marco Favaro who then dished the ball off to Philip who buried it in the net for his first of the year. Lucas finished off the scoring a short time later when he took advantage of a Metro Ford miss kick and chipped the ball home from 25 yards. Evan had a quiet time in net but when called upon was fearless in getting down to make saves when necessary. Final score 3-0.

Mountain FC U12 BOYS vs Coastal FC - June 12th
Location : South Surrey Athletic Park
Weather : Sunny and warm
Mountain FC - 3 : 3 - Coastal FC
Half-time score : 0:2 (mtn:oppos)
The grass surface was fantastic and the weather in South Surrey was beautiful. A great day for a game and Mountain started by taking it to Coastal with their possession game early. The grass field took a bit of getting used to as the Mountain boys were unaccustomed to the slower playing surface. Early on in the game the slow surface held us victim when a ball being played around the back was intercepted and from about 30 yard the Coastal forward delivered an excellent shot leaving no chance for Matt McLeod in net. After the restart Mountain had some sustained pressure as Marco Favaro and Matteo Montagliani attacked down the flanks. Alessio Bonaventura and Phil Chung were doing fantastic in midfield winning the ball and feeding the two wide men and Carson Ho who was working tirelessly up front. Coastal were battling hard and had frequent forays into the Mountain half. Several long balls over the top of our defence to wide attackers were putting our fullback pair of Adam Turin and Grayson Perrier under pressure. A couple long balls over the top drew Matt well out of his penalty area to head off balls. On both occasions the grass held the ball up and allowed the Coastal attacker to go around Matt. It was all we needed as Matt's efforts and pressure from the rest of the defenders forced the Coastal forward to squander the opportunities. Meanwhile at the other end of the field Mountain wasted some chances of our own. Jacob Low and Marco Favaro were left holding their heads in disbelief as opportunities were missed in close. It was a seesaw battle as the game ebbed and flowed back and forth. Matt was being put under some unaccustomed pressure in goal and was forced out the game due to a heel injury. Evan Ince replaced Matt just before the half. Evan was only in a few minutes when another long ball from Coastal got one of their players lose in the penalty area, in a tackle the Coastal player went down and left the referee pointing to the spot. A Coastal player then stepped up and slotted the ball home. Half time 0-2. The second half saw Mountain really take over. We eliminated the long ball from Coastal. Any long balls that did find their way through saw Francesco Scaglione and Lucas McIlveen there to tidy things up in from their central defence positions. The midfield seemed to find another gear. Luca Lepore , Michael Parchomchuk and Brady Hughes worked tirelessly winning balls, keeping possession and making pinpoint passes, meanwhile on the right wing Nathan Graziano was making run after run, crossing balls and creating scoring opportunity after opportunity. Again, as they were all weekend, Mountain created opportunities but the finishing was not there. We persisted in our play and finally with only 10 minutes to go in the game we were finally rewarded of a bit of a scramble. Lucas was able force the ball through to Jacob who got in tight to the Coastal goal, the rebound went high in the air and Marco ended up being in the right spot to head home our first goal. The goal raised our spirits and 2 minutes later we were at it again when we won a corner. Lucas ventured up from his centre back position and was able to get on the end of Adam's corner kick and finish it off. With 7 minutes to go, we smelled blood, but as we pushed forward Coastal countered. After a short period of pressure from Coastal, one of their wingers was able to get a hard shot off and onto our net. Evan got down well to stop the first shot, but the rebound was quickly pounced on and buried by Coastal. With just over 4 minutes to go we were down again. Mountain adjusted and went with 3 defenders as Nathan pushed up front. Wave after wave of Mountain attacks came and then with only a minute to go Gerardo Villavicencio stepped up and delivered some magic when he hammered a shot home after some good play from Marco and Jacob created the opportunity. Shortly after the restart the final whistle went to end the game. It was a very exciting game, where despite our play we found ourselves on the wrong end of the score line for most of the game, but our boys persisted, raised their level and did not deviate from our approach to the game. In the end it was a very rewarding result.

Mountain FC U12 BOYS vs Abbotsford - June 11th
Location : Burnbay North
Weather : Overcast & Warm
Mountain FC - 2 : 0 - Abbotsford
Half-time score : 1:0 (mtn:oppos)
The game started with Mountain controlling the play. Our back 4 of Adam Turin, Lucas McIlveen, Joey Marshall and Grayson Perrier were controlling the game. They won every challenge and were cool, calm and collective as they controlled the ball out of the back line. The play was tight in midfield and Mountain came out on the short end of a couple of collisions when Michael Parchomchuck and Philip Chung collided heads with Abbotsford players on 2 separate occasions. Each were sporting nice goose eggs as a result. Mountain was not deterred as the constant pressure resulted in a series of corners. A quick corner saw Marco Favro play the ball back to Adam who whipped a ball across to Matteo Montagliani who calmly buried the ball. The only thing lacking on the goal was the celebration, where after the game Matteo could only be disappointed as to how he handled this. There were several opportunities that followed. Brady Hughes and Jacob low who are usually deadly around the box just didn’t have the ball drop their way and squandered good opportunities. Evan Ince had a quiet time in net and was only called on once when he made a nice diving save knocking the ball off for a corner kick. Half time 1-0. The second half started with a flurry as Mountain picked up the pace right from the kick off and less than a minute in we were rewarded when a nice ball from Francesco Scaglione resulted in Nathan Graziano knocking a good ball across from the right wing. The ball fell kindly to Gerardo Villavicencio who hit a nice shot over the goalie and into the back of the net. In spite of Abbotsford pushing extra attackers up we were solid up the middle of defence. Joey, Lucas and Brady won everything Abbotsford threw at us. Carson Ho had slid in up front and made many penetrating runs to keep the Abbotsford defenders on their heels. Luca Lepore and Allessio Bonaventure made several excellent runs out of midfield and found themselves in good scoring positions with only the goalie to beat. Mountain played very well and controlled the flow of play throughout the game. With better finishing it could have been a lot worse for Abbotsford. Matt McLeod had a solid game, distributing the ball very well when called upon. Full time: 2-0.

Mountain FC U12 BOYS vs Victoria - June 4th
Location : Burnaby North
Weather : Sunny and warm
Mountain FC - 4 : 1 - Victoria
Half-time score : 2:0 (mtn:oppos)
The game started with neither team seeming to get into any flow. The majority of the game was being played in the Victoria half with Philip Chung and Alessio Bonaventura doing the hard work in centre midfield. It was finally at the 6 minute mark when the Mountain squad was rewarded for their relentless pressure when a good build up from Brady Hughes ended up in Alessio laying off a nice ball to Marco Favro who fired a nice shot from the top to the penalty area over the goalies head and into the net. Chances in the box came to Jacob Low who never got the bounce he needed to finish, Gerardo Villavicencio was doing his typical work high in midfield gathering the ball and dishing it off. At the 16 minute Adam Turrin pushed up from his midfield position and Luca Lapore cut a ball back to him. Adam took full advantage of the opportunity lobbing the ball over the goalie. Matteo was being his usual busy self causing all sorts of trouble for the Victoria defence down the left flank. As half time rolled around Mountain seemed to be in control and Matthew MacLeod had very little to do in goal. Half time 2-0. The second half started where we left off. Carson Ho was running at players from his wide right position and Michael Parchomchuk was doing a great job in centre midfield. At the 16 minute mark some good play between Alessio and Philip resulted in Marco striking with his second goal of the game. Joey Marshall and Lucas McIlveen had been coasting through the game making things look easy winning ball after ball, when things changed dramatically. Victoria started to pushing up and pressuring our back line. After a couple minutes of sustained pressure and 3 failed attempts to clear a Victoria forward took the opportunity to fire a shot past Evan Ince in goal. Evan had no chance on the shot that found the top left corner of the net. The Victoria pressure continued and the Mountain team found themselves playing in their own half. Grayson Perrier and Francesco worked tirelessly tracking players and winning balls. Our occasional foray into the Victoria end only resulted in the ball coming right back in our end. Right on full time some nice play developed out of midfield when Gerardo got the ball out to Nathan Graziano on the wing where he made some great moves and got the ball over to Luca stepped up and finished it nicely. Right after the goal, the whistle blew for full time. Final, Mountain 4: Victoria 1.

Mountain FC U12 BOYS vs Abbotsford - May 29th
Location : Bateman Park, Abbotsford
Weather : Sunny and warm
Mountain FC - 5 : 0 - Abbotsford
Half-time score : 2:0 (mtn:oppos)
A sunny day and a great facility at Bateman Park out in Abbotsford greeted us as we made our trek up the Fraser Valley. Right from the start we took the game to Abbotsford by knocking the ball around confidently. Nathan Graziano was causing all sorts of trouble for the Abbotsford defence as he was taking the ball from wide positions and creating shooting opportunities for himself and others with great crosses into the box. Matteo Montagliani was fantastic on the wing, with spin moves and step-over's he was waltzing around defenders and getting crosses into the box. Constant pressure was generated from Mike Parchomchuk, Philip Chung and Alessio Bonaventura out of midfield as they won balls and sprayed them around. After a series of corners the Mountain squad was rewarded when a corner was cleared to the top of the box where Grayson Perrier stepped up from his left back position and hammered a shot from 25 yards that swerved away from the goalie and into the top left corner of the net. After this the Abbotsford team pushed back and a through ball saw their speedy striker head in alone, but a heads up play from Evan Ince in goal saw him rush out of his box to clear the danger. After the clearance the Abbotsford player held nothing back on his run and ran straight through Evan that resulted in a big collision. Evan came out uninjured and the Abbotsford player was show a yellow for his choice of tactics. On our back line Adam Turin, Franceso Scaglioni and Joey Marshall were steady as usual winning balls, playing them to teammates and dictating play. It was just on the stroke of half time when Luca Lepore and Jacob Low were put through with only the goalie to beat. Luca being first to the ball unselfishly dished it off to Jacob who fired it home right through the hands of the goalie. Half time 2:0. The second half seemed to see us up the pressure. The Abbotsford team just couldn't generate anything as our boys really started to dominate. A short corner resulted in free kick on the edge of the Abbotsford box. Adam came over and knocked a beauty of a cross into the box, it ended up on the feet of Gerardo Villavicencio who got it over to Lucas McIlveen who had made his way forward from his central defender role. The big centre back made the best of his opportunity by hammering home his first of the season. Brady Hughes and Macro Favaro had moved to the back line at the restart and between them they created all sorts of opportunities as Brady would get the ball wide and Marco would work his magic by springing Carson Ho and Nathan with ball after ball, it was great to watch. It wasn't long before Jacob sprung Philip for a nice goal and shortly thereafter Matteo took a free kick from the edge of the box and went ahead and buried it himself on a super shot. Matt McLeod was tested in goal only a handful of times and confidently rose to the occasion. Matt's decision making and ball distribution was excellent as he brought his teammates into the game with accurate throws and kicks. If it wasn't for the performance of the Abbotsford goalie, there could have been much more damage done.

Mountain FC U12 BOYS vs Coastal FC - May 28th
Location : Burnaby North
Weather : Cloudy & Dry
Mountain FC - 1 : 0 - Coastal FC
Half-time score : 0:0 (mtn:oppos)
The Mountain U12 Boys got an early jump in the game against Coastal FC. Right down the middle of the park we controlled the play. Brady Hughes & Frenceso Scaglioni stepped up to fill the 2 centre back roles and did a superb job or thwarting every attack and playing the ball around. Our midfielders of Matteo Montagliani and Marco Favro on the wings got many opportunities to cross balls only to see them go right through the box or end up in the goalies arms. Meanwhile, when the ball did drop to Nathan Graziano and Gerardo Villaviceencio up front they caused all sorts of havoc for the Coastal defense. At the 18 minute Gerardo lobbed one off the crossbar. It was only poor finishing and good goalkeeping that kept the score line where it was. There were a few forays into the Mountain half as Coastal attempted to spring their speedy forwards, but at every opportunity Matt McLeod was there to shut the door in goal. At the end of the first half we seemed to be in control, but had yet to be rewarded for our efforts. Half time 0:0 At the start of the second half the boys seemed to step it up a bit. Philip Chung, Carson Ho, and Jake Low created all sorts of opportunities out of midfield as opportunity after opportunity developed but the Coastal goalie had an answer for everything we threw at them. Philip sprung Mike Parchomchuk with a great through ball and with only the goalie to beat he put it just high and over the bar. The continued pressure resulted in a free kick just outside the penalty area when Gerardo was taken down. Adam Turrin stepped up and hit the free kick directly into the top left corner. With about 15 minutes to go the tide started to turn when the Coastal team started pushing forward and winning balls. For the 1st time in the game we found ourselves under constant pressure. Our centre midfield duo of Luca Lepore and Alessio Boneventura settled in and started winning balls to feed our forwards and wide men. Joey Marshall and Grayson Perrier also did well coping with the pressure. Evan Ince who had stepped into goal midway through the second half looked strong in net. Overall it was a game where Mountain knocked the ball around very well and created some good scoring opportunities. We were well deserving of the 1-0 win.

Mountain FC U12 BOYS vs Victoria - May 15th
Location : UVIC
Weather : Showers
Mountain FC - 3 : 0 - Victoria
Half-time score : 1:0 (mtn:oppos)
An 11:00 Ferry to Victoria departed late, our bus driver took the scenic route to UVIC, and 5 minutes prior to kick off we were finally at the park. The referees delayed the kick off for 10 minutes to allow us a short warm up and then the game was on! It was great to see how the Mountain boys started off in spite of the circumstances by quickly taking control. The midfield trio of Alessio Bonaventura, Philip Chung and Gerardo Villavicencio were winning tackles and playing the ball around and before you knew it, 8 minutes in Philip had sprung Jacob Low on a breakaway, who calmly chipped the ball over the onrushing goalie for an early lead. Victoria kept our back line of Francesco Scaglione, Grayson Perrier, Joey Marshall and Lucas McIlveen under pressure by knocking long balls through, but our back four had an answer for everything by winning balls and calmly moving them forward into attack. Midway through the half a shot from a Victoria player was headed for the top corner when Evan Ince made a fantastic save by fully extending himself and pushing the ball past the post. [half time 1:0]. In the second half Mountain adjusted and stopped Victoria from playing the long balls through. It put Victoria under pressure, combined with the constant pressure of penetrating balls from our Brady Hughes, Macro Favro and Matteo Montagliani, we were intimidating the Victoria defence. Nate Graziano looked dangerous every time he got the ball up front and the support provided by Carson Ho was superb. Everyone's efforts were rewarded at 10 minutes when Grayson pushed a ball through to Jacob who calmly waltzed around a defender near the touch line and slotted the ball past the goalie for a 2:0 lead. The occasional attempt on goal by Victoria was handled confidently by Matt McLeod in net. At the 20 minute mark another great build up resulted in a cross ball going straight through the box. Michael Parchomchuk tracked the ball down, turned nicely and delivered a cross straight onto the head of the onrushing Luca Lepore who left his feet to head our 3rd goal home. The game saw a fantastic effort from our boys after the challenging journey to the park.

Mountain FC U12 BOYS vs Metro Ford - May 14th
Location : Burnaby North
Weather : overcast / warm
Mountain FC - 4 : 1 - Metro Ford
Half-time score : 2:0 (mtn:oppos)
Mountain U12 boy’s season got off to a flying start. After the first 10 minutes the team settled into a ball possession game and started moving the ball around. Tireless running and attacks by Marco Favro and Matteo Montagliani on the flanks finally generated a good chance for Luca Lapore who put a hard shot off the crossbar. After coming on the park at the 15 minute mark Gerardo Villavicencio, Alessio Bonaventura and Philip Chung took control of the midfield and shortly thereafter Brady Hughes was able to spring Jacob Low on a great through ball. Jacob took the ball, beat a defender and rocketed a shot into the net. Two minutes later Brady himself chipped in with a goal by finishing with a shot to the top corner. The Mountain defense stood solid with Lucas McIlveen and Joey Marshall controlling the middle of the back. Franceso Scaglione and Grayson Perrier were also solid. Metro Ford did threaten at one point on a scramble in front of the net, but Matt McLeod stood strong in goal and came up with the ball. Half time (2-0). At the restart Mountain got right after Metro Ford and were rewarded at the one minute mark of the second half when some nice play between Nate Graziano and Carson Ho ended up in a cross to Mike Parchomchuk at the far post who headed it home. 10 minutes later, on what looked like an identical play, Mike put one off the goalpost. From their full back positions Grayson and Adam Turrin were pushing forward. Grayson found himself in occasional shooting positions and some dangerous overlapping runs and crosses from Adam resulted in challenges for the Metro Ford defense. At the 20 minute mark a nice cross off the right wing from Marco resulted in Luca Lapore hammering home his first of the season. It was a pretty quiet second half for Evan Ince who was only called upon a couple of times. Metro Ford replied with a late goal on an unstoppable shot with about 10 minutes to go. From there the Mountain boys continued to knock the ball around and saw the game home for a convincing 4-1 victory.
